Happy Valentine's Day?

Today is a day all about love - but what I want to talk about right now is learning to love yourself.  Jesus commands "Love your neighbor as yourself." now how are we supposed to truly be able to love someone if we have no love in our hearts for ourselves.  As a plus-size woman I struggle with loving myself the way I am and actually believing that God made me who I am.  YES I know that being healthy and fit is ideal but let me posit this one question - what if all the health struggles and difficulties I've had in the last 20 years of my life that have gotten me to the place I am today - a plus-size woman, were to teach me a lesson.  To teach me that beauty has nothing to do with your body OR your clothes.

Yes yes this is a plus-size fashion blog, I know this.  Because the thing is, I'm learning to love the REAL me - the Hope God made me to be.  I love my faith, I love my mind, I love my heart, I love my strength, I love all the wonderful amazing things God made me to be and I love them EVEN in this plus-size package.  I am learning to look at myself in the mirror and say "i love you".  Society says in order to be lovable you must look a certain way.  I say that's a lie.  We are all lovable.  For God so LOVED the world he gave his only begotten Son that whosoever believes in him would not perish but have everlasting life.

Love never fails.

If I'm being honest Valentine's Day is a HUGE hit for me.  My husband adores me, thinks I'm gorgeous in all my plus-size glory and is my best friend.  But what Valentine's Day MEANS to me is that I want to be a little more loving, I want to love OTHERS more, give more, care more, smile more, be kinder.

This Valentine's Day rather than BEING loved I want to DO the loving.  Sure I'm not going to turn my nose up to my husband's love and my children's kisses - but what I mean is I want to LIVE LOVE.  Let all I do be done with Love.  That is my wish this Valentine's Day.

Now onto fashion matters.  Here's what I wore out to our Valentine's Breakfast Date this morning:

Bow Blouses and Hearts

So okay, I'll admit I've never been a 'blouse' kinda gal. Having worked in a law firm for 20+ years blouses always spoke sedate, corporate and boring to me.  However, thanks to Gwynnie Bee I was able to try this really cute heart bow blouse in a splashy fun yellow color. SO outside my comfort zone.  And guess what ...

I LOVED IT!

I worked it with some black jeans and gold accessories and gold cap toe flats to vamp it up.

Necklace and Bangles - Forever 21/Watch - Michael Kors

What is Gwynnie Bee you ask?  This is what their website says:  Gwynnie Bee is a monthly subscription service for size 10-28. You pay a monthly fee for access to an unlimited wardrobe and unlimited free shipping. We offer a 30 day free trial period - there's no reason not to try it. Have fun with fashion. Enjoy and exchange.

I have been loving it.  The quality of the clothing is TOP NOTCH - I mean everything I've tried has seemed completely brand new - and so beautiful and you can try things you'd never normally buy or dresses you might think are too over the top for that special occassion, just to see if you like them.  You can even purchase an item if you absolutely fall in love with it.  They have blouses, sweaters, blazers, skirts, dresses.  So check out GWYNNIE BEE

I have received  no compensation for supporting and suggesting Gwynnie Bee I just am in LOVE with the service.

Now back to this blouse.  I am stinking in love with it.  The hearts just take the cake - just in time for Valentine's Day.

Oh and notice ... another photo of yours truly.   Photo phobia ?  Who me ?

FROZEN NYFW

Am I the only one having visions of Samantha slipping on the snow and ice when they were going to NYFW in the Sex and the City movie.  I can't stop laughing.

With the frozen ice storm hitting NYC, I really hope that no one falls this time around.

To Fat to be Photographed??

So You're Feeling too Fat to be Photographed??

I know I talk a lot on this blog about learning to love fashion at the size I am in the skin I'm in.  However you may notice an extreme absence of photographs of me.  Why? Because I HATE pictures of myself.  Even if my outfit is AWESOME I still can't seem to get over the flaws I can't stop staring at in the pictures.

However the article above really made me stop and think.  Life is happening. Right now.  Memories.  And I'm missing making note of them by avoiding taking photographs with my family.  Any excuse to not have my picture taken is use.  I've had a few recently for the sake of posterity but I still hate them.  And yet now I'm realizing that I need to begin to rethink the way I move forward with this blog.

I'm not a good photographer, neither is my husband.  We don't have good photo equipment and never will.  This blog is a little hobby for me not something I'm looking to make a living at.  Still, if I'm going to be real.  If I'm going to be genuine, there has to be times when I post pictures of myself in my fabulous fashion that I like to talk about so much.

Because it IS possible to look good as a plus-size woman in fashion.  IT IS.  I may find fault with myself in those pictures but I'm not going to find fault with the fashion. And perhaps by doing this once in a while, posting an outfit of the day photo that turned out quite nicely, maybe I'll learn to truly embrace myself just a little bit more lovingly.

With all that being said, here is what I wore on Saturday night.  Our family went to go see Beauty and the Beast at the Hippodrome Theatre in Baltimore.  Click on the photo to view the larger version.

So the message of this post is you can look fabulous in fashion even as a plus-size gal, you can love it, you can enjoy it and you can even be brave enough to photograph yourself in it.

Pastel Jeans

One hot trend for spring / summer is colored jeans.  This trend is continuing from last season.  Colored jeans / slacks are hot hot hot and I'm loving it.

Check out these from forever21.com plus

I just got the mint color and can't wait to wear them come spring.  I also got a white pair.  I plan on rolling these to make them the cropped ankle style that Jordan recommended in my last post.
